Our Church History

From our founding, we believe God has strategically placed Asbury Church to be a lighthouse in our community.

A Journey of Faith

The adventure of Asbury Church began in 1969 with eight families responding to the call of establishing a full-gospel church in the Lansing community.  With faith and great expectation Asbury Church began September of 1969 with its first service in the old Asbury Church building located at the corner of North Triphammer and Asbury Road.  After only a short time in the old church building, the congregation was in need of finding a new location.

In response to this new challenge, they began to pray.  After a season of praying, the Church Council was approached by the Atwater family, long time residents of Lansing, with a God-inspired idea.  It was during this meeting that Mrs. Atwater made an incredible statement:

“There’s one thing I want you to know and get straight.  All I have and own belongs to God, and you folks are trying to really do something for Him, so just decide how much land you need and where you want it, and it is yours.  Come, drive me around the block and I will show you what property is available.”

God graciously provided this current Lansing location through a generous gift of the Atwater family.  It took some time to put up buildings and so Asbury Church met in a welding shop until the parsonage was completed in 1973 and the original sanctuary in 1974.  In the mid 80’s, the sanctuary was extended and the fellowship area was added.  Soon after, the annex building was added.

In the spring of 2010, the Asbury Church adventure expanded with our first campus in Dryden.  With this campus we became a “Multi-Site Congregation”.  Even though we have more than one site, we function as one church, with one vision, one council and one budget.

We are excited about what God is doing in Asbury Church and what He will do in the future.  If you don’t have a church home, we want to invite you to come and see what’s going on here.  You’re always welcome!
