Ladies!

I would like to invite you all to consider joining the women’s Life Group I am going to be leading this spring.  We will be doing a diet, health and wellness program called Your Whole Life: The 3D Plan. 

The 3 D’s stand for
– Diet (eating right),
– Discipline (living well), and
– Discipleship (loving God). 
 
The program was started in 1972 by Carol Showalter, at that time a young pastor’s wife and mother of 4 who struggled with her weight and self-image as well as the demands of her church ministry.  3D has been called “the Christian answer to Weight Watchers” but over time has changed to more of a wellness program where the focus is on becoming whole and finding balance in your life.

 

I did 3D way back in 1981 when its focus was on weight-loss dieting.  It was actually the first weight-loss program I ever did, and it set the foundation for all future dieting efforts for me.  In the last couple of years I’ve developed some health issues that would be much improved if I lost some weight, and I wondered if 3D was still out there.  When I looked it up I was intrigued by how the program has changed.  I would like to try it again and the Lord has impressed on my heart that we could share this journey together at Asbury.  Here are the program specifics:

 

WHO: A small group of women (12 maximum recommended) who want to find greater health and wholeness in body, soul, and spirit while growing closer to the Lord and to each other.

WHAT WILL HAPPEN: Each group member will work on eating a healthy balanced diet (including weight loss or gain if needed) and developing a personal exercise program that can be tailored to individual needs.  Each member will also read daily devotions, memorize Scripture verses, attend the weekly meetings, and pray daily for other group members.  Maintaining a journal to record what the Lord is teaching you through the program is highly recommended as well.

WHEN AND WHERE: Tuesday afternoons from 4-5:30 at Asbury’s Dryden Campus.  The first half-hour will be for weigh-in (which is optional but will be helpful for tracking progress) and the other hour for prayer, discussion and sharing.  It is a 12-week program that will start on April 17th and will run to July 3rd.  (Please note that we will NOT be doing an exercise program during the meetings!)

WHY: Because we all struggle with some area of our lives and need help from each other!

COST AND WHAT YOU WILL NEED: You will need to purchase a copy of Your Whole Life: The 3D Plan for Eating Right, Living Well, and Loving God by Carol Showalter and Maggie Davis, which Asbury will order and will cost about $9-10.  You will need some form of journal to write in, and it’s also recommended that you get a pedometer for tracking steps if you will be doing a walking program.
